The Gospel for 5th Sunday in Lent, Year A.

The Raising of Lazarus as depicted in an unattributed oil painting gifted to one of our Benefice churches back in the 1890's where it hangs above the font, presumably symbolic of new life. I remain unconvinced of its suitability in that position.

  1. I've always understood that Lazarus did not receive new life, but the old life taken up once more. He would die again. His resuscitation is not resurrection, so I agree with your misgivings.

  2. Thanks for your observations, Fr Paul - but as there's no other suitable place to hang the thing, I suspect it will stay where it is until the Second Coming.
