Strip field system


With reference to the previous entry, in this aerial view, with the "island" village to the top of the picture, the remnants of the old mediaeval strip system of farming can clearly be seen in the long narrow fields that still exist.

  1. Very interesting, thank you. Historical Geography has advanced since I was taught it 40-odd years ago.

    And,of course, now there's Google Earth.

  3. The more puritanical owners of the recent past have termed it "Starnaker Farm". I prefer the original. Sort of earthy and rural and a good reflection of 19th century activity in the hay fields.
